What do you think makes a good DOS fan? Do you think that a good collection of his films is important or do you think that someone who has been a fan of his for a long time is a better DOS fan than someone who hasn't?
Do you think that you're a good DOS fan?
It'll be interesting to see what people think.

Good question, Louise!
I think to be a "good" fan of any actor (not just David) you have to take an interest in as much of his work as possible. Doesn't matter whether that means collecting stuff on video/DVD, or just watching as much as possible. (I was lucky in that when I first started to take an interest in him, there were a number of his TV appearances, past and present, being shown on various cable channels. But then, I like the "thrill of the hunt" too, for those more elusive programmes and films.)
Obviously any "good" fan is also likely to take an interest in David's life as well as his work - though that's more difficult, given that he's such a private guy. So that has to be respected too.
What do others think?

I was a huge M*A*S*H* fan at the time it went of the air. I did'nt follow David's career because I had this horrible habit of jumping from one fandom to the next. I knew David was a fan of classical music, but I had no idea he conducted. I also didn't know about Dead Zone, which is next in my Netflix que. I do remember having a mild heart attack when he appeared on Star Trek: The Next Generation! Because I discovered this board (thanks to Stanford9), I have been renting the MASH DVDs via Netflix. I have fond memories of the show, but I also enjoy it in a different way now too. It has also inspired me to "hunt down" his other appearances too!

I do remember having a mild heart attack when he appeared on Star Trek: The Next Generation! Did you spot the little MASH tribute in there? When Timicin and Geordi were tracking the photon torpedo's effect on the star, the screen they were looking at had '4077' in the corner

Oh no Kay, I'll have to wait to watch Half A Life again just to see that.

I'm not actually sure what I think makes a good David fan as some good David fans haven't been fans for that long and don't have a huge DVD/Video collection. Perhaps what is more important is that they're keen to learn more about him and his work.
I don't think there is such thing as a number 1 fan either because who's to say that one fan is better than another.
In answer to your second question, I think I'm quite a good David fan, at least I hope I am.

A good DOS fan rents every one of his DVD's she can her hands on! Then she does screen caps and shares them with her fellow DOS fans...... ;D
Oh, wait a minute, I just described myself!

A good DOS fan rents every one of his DVD's she can her hands on! Then she does screen caps and shares them with her fellow DOS fans...... ;D It's not always that easy though. One of the biigest David fans I know has been a fan of his for some time and has a vast amount of knowledge on him and his films. I'm not describing myself here as I don't have that much knowledge on David or his films and I've only been a fan since 2002. Of course I'm keen to broaden my knowledge and increase my collection of his DVD's but like I said it's not always that simple if you live where I do.

I don't think I'm a good DOS fan. I have very few of his films on dvd or video and don't know much about him.
On some fan communities fans fight about who the best fan is. I once read an article about how horrible they get.
