This was an episode that showed two sides of Charles. It started off with his big headed side but then when he realised that his mistake cost a soldier another trip into surgery he felt really bad about it.
His conscience about this supports our point that he is a good man.

How do I not remember this one? I vaguely do, but scenes from it escape me.
My MASH episode FAQ says "Charles assumes heroic proportions after reviving a dying patient with heart massage, and he becomes more insufferable than ever when a photojournalist from Stars and Stripes (Greg Mullavey) arrives to publicize his medical prowess."

That's the one.
Charles makes a mistake (because he's so busy impressing the journalist) and his mistake means that his patient has to be re-opened. Charles feels bad about this so he rips up the article that the journalist had just shown him.
Pierce comforts Charles (sort of) with: "You're arrogant, egotistical and a total bore but you're alright" which I thought was a nice thing to do.

What cracks me up is that's like the pot calling the kettle black, ain't it? Hawkeye's pretty arrogant and egotistical as well.

Yes, the number of times Hawkeye boasts that he's the best surgeon at the 4077th! Yes no-one ever picks up on it.
Nearest he came to being out-and-out criticized was in the ep with the ex-boxing champ who had the stroke - even BJ got hacked off with him in that one!

Ah yes I loved that moment. If I was at the 4077th I'd get pretty annoyed with Hawkeye.
