Hawkeye's storyline in this was really boring and so over the top. I liked Charles' storyline the best and it was the most well played I thought. My husband thought that they could have killed one of the characters off and the scene with Charles in the woods would have been the perfect opportunity to do that. I, of course disagree.
I loved Charles and Margaret's parting scene and she looked touched by whatever he wrote in the book. I wish they'd have shown what he wrote. Hawkeye and Margaret's parting scene was awful and like most things with Hawkeye in them they have to be over the top. The kiss didn't look very real at all.

I like in GFA when Hawkeye & BJ said goodbye to each other that made me so sad!
I would love to see what Charles wrote in the book!

Might have been interesting to have seen what happened if Sidney couldn't cure Hawkeye! The Charles part of the episode is definitely the best! David wrote a message for Loretta in the book before he handed it to her, saying "friends - David" and added his phone number. So her expression of delight was genuine.

Aw, that's sweet! Interesting little factoid, I'll watch for that next time I see GFA.
Since everyone's talking about it, can I assume it just played recently? I've not been watching TV for a while, too busy watching stuff on my puter that I download, or the "I Spy" DVDs I just got.
(Oh, and a movie with Robert Culp that we rented... got some awesome screencaps too, whoot!)

"Hawkeye's storyline in this was really boring and so over the top."
I agree, and apparently a LOT of other people do too (at least people I know). Without fail, when mentioning the last ep of MASH, they go I HATED IT!! and I think it's cuz of that little story arc.
I went YEARS absolutely refusing to watch it again. When I finally did, I discovered that the "Hawkeye goes crazy" portion was only the first hour of it. I was so livid when I saw it and so disappointed, that it set in my mind that the whole ep was like that.
But ALDA, OMG... talk about overacting! Jeesh, and people accuse William Shatner of that?? At least he knows he gets pretty campy and overdramatic; I'm sure with Alda's ego, that thought never even occurs to him.
Ew,I'm shuddering, remembering it all.... Glad we have David's gentle and natural style of acting to fall back on!

I couldn't even begin to try my hand at what Charles would say to Margaret; I wish I was half as eloquent as he is!
