Well, I finally got to view this program that I was dying to see for so long. I think it could have been stretched out a bit longer. It seemed as if they tried to force to much information into to short a time period (1 1/2 hours).
On the bright side, the segment on David was excellent. They showed segments of Fade Out, Fade In, but it think it could have been even better if they went into a little more detail about the evolution of Charles as they did with Margaret and BJ. They definitely should have shown clips from The Life You Save, but they didn't.
Also included in his segment was a brief interview with his parents, and clips of him directing the Eugene, OR Orchestra. It would have been nice if the producers added footage of each actor in something they did prior to M*A*S*H*. Hindsight is 20/20 though, isn't it?
This time I played it safe. I recorded it on my DVD recorder AND my PC hard drive, so I didn't miss it.
Tonight TV Land will be showing the 30th Anniversary Reunion. I've been dying to see that one too.

David doesn't get to say much on the Reunion either (guess who does most of the talking?), but that seems to be about par for the course on these things. It annoys me that not only do they not spend much time discussing Charles' character, but they never say how good David was at playing the role. Grr!

Charles/David deserved more time on those shows but then again we all know M*A*S*H was really The Alan Alda Show.

I recorded the 30th anniversary but didn't get to watch it yet. What irritates me is TVLand. I posted this over on the other site, but just check out how pathetic their message board is! Who do you absolutely hate on M.A.S.H Date 01.04.07 11:58 AM From: vgmaster
I hate Major Burns, and Cornel Wichester They let people post this kind of garbage, but when I responded by correcting the guy's grammar (and admittedly calling him a moron) my post was deleted! Here's my complaint to TVLand for their lack of Charles clips and episodes: M*A*S*H* Date 01.05.07 7:48 AM From: NukeBaby
Just viewed your M*A*S*H* "TV Tone" video. Nice work, but why did you diss David Ogden Stiers? The man is a great actor! He portrayed Charles for 6 seasons and earned an Emmy nomination as well. To add insult to injury, your "Major Major Marathon" featured very little of him. Nothing against McLean Stevenson and Wayne Rogers, but they were only on 3 years yet you saturate your commercials and website with them. Here's the link to the TV Land message board: www.tvland.com/registration/loginnow.jhtml

I don't know how you responded to this post but if I had been running that message board I would have asked vgmaster why he hated those characters and ignored his spelling. Admittedly bad spelling is no excuse for making a mistake on Charles' rank. We know why M*A*S*H boards permit criticisms of Charles, they're run by a bunch of Hawkye lovers.

I hadn't noticed the treatment of Mr. Stiers and his character. I'll pass along your observation to our programming, on-air promotion, and online groups.
