Hawkeye and BJ in particular seemed to think Charles was a bit tight with his money - but I think he was more generous than they ever gave him credit for.
In his very first episode, he paid for his Ox-cart ride to the camp. When he employed 'servants', he paid them (and when he says of the wages "It's the going rate!" I think he's probably right). He lent BJ the $200 he needed without asking for Interest; and he paid for everyone when he got landed with the Charity collection (Not sure how many people there are supposed to be altogether, but it would have added up to quite a tidy sum, I think).
Thoughts? Other examples?
