He was someone I feel didn't have much to do with Charles. I liked Radar on a whole but as it got near the end his child-like-ness got on my nerves.
I also didn't like the way he worshipped Hawkeye and I think the character had run his time.

It always amazes me how Radar, a teen who tricked Henry and smoked cigars etc., regressed into this little clueless boy as the show went on. He was right when he said he was going to be the only one going home younger than when he left.

He was someone I feel didn't have much to do with Charles. I liked Radar on a whole but as it got near the end his child-like-ness got on my nerves. On 'Memories of MASH' when David was talking about Charles, he said something along the lines of "he would use people so far as they'd be helpful to him, and then they walked off a cliff so far as he was concerned." That's a description of 'early' Charles rather than 'later' Charles, but I think it especially sums up his relationship with Radar. He'd certainly never have dreamed of taking Radar's advice the way he did from Klinger (am thinking here of 'No Laughing Matter'). I think his opinion of Radar was neatly summed up in an OR scene where Radar was trying to impress a new nurse and said he thought he'd show her around and show her the ropes - and Charles sneered: "But who's going to show you?"

One good caveat to the series: They kept Gary and Radar from the movie. Only actor and character to carry over.
I agree with one post: the "childlike innocence" act got boring. Hell, he was already not a teen in the movie MASH, let alone the series when he left.

I just watched the double episode where Radar leaves.....and I have to say that I was glad to see him go in the end! In the early episodes, Radar was fine and I liked him but...like others have commented on already....Radar's childlike innocence did get a bit on the tedious side after a while!

Yeah...I know what you mean. I don't think it was very true to life with the way Radar turned out, because I'm sure life in the Army, and in a war zone, would age a person rather than the other way round.....I know it would me!!
