I thought we were talking about folks CEW knew on the show, but then Frank Burns is mentioned.
So here's Trapper.
He rules. I dare to say I don't know who I like better: Trapper or Charles.
(Ducks)
Maybe it's something about tall handsome thoracic surgeons from Boston? Heh.

You can talk about any M*A*S*H character in this section.
I don't know much about Trapper he seemed quiet in comparison to Hawkeye and I think that Wayne Rogers was right when he said he didn't want to be an assistant to Hawkeye (I know those words weren't his but it was something along those lines). I therefore feel that Trapper was not able to develop properly as a character.

I can understand that, about being "assistant to Hawkeye." The show came out not too long after the movie (I know I keep going back to the movie, but darn it, it IS the precursor to the series... the book by Richard Hooker started it all, I think...) and I'm sure Wayne was aware that in the MOVIE, one could consider Trapper as being the major character, if not equal to Hawkeye. It's not long after Trapper joins the 4077th (after Hawkeye and Duke plead with Henry to get a chest cutter) that he's made the Chief Surgeon. (FYI: Trapper is played by Elliott Gould, Hawkeye by Donald Sutherland and Duke Forrest by Tom Skerritt. Father Mulcahy is played by Rene Auberjonois, and Radar is played by...yep, Gary Burghoff. In case y'all didn't know.)
After I wrote that, about tall handsome thoracic surgeons from Boston, I got thinking... is that just a coincidence? That statement describes both Trapper and Charles, after all. Were TPTB subconsciously putting some of Trapper's characteristics on Charles, or maybe playing on the Boston thingie a bit more?

I wonder how things would have developed if Hawkeye had gone home and Trapper had been the one left at the 4077th? I think maybe he and BJ would have got along okay at first, especially while Frank was still there, but I suspect BJ's whining about home might have got on Trapper's nerves after a while. Could see that he and Charles might (in later seasons) have eventually ganged up together against Beej. What do you think?

There's a fanfic on FF.net that posits what it would've been like if Hawk had gone home, not Trapper.
Either C and T would've ganged up on BJ, or else BJ and T would've driven C nuts talking about the wives and kids.

I always thought Trap was cute. There's something about that accent and those unruly blonde curls.

I think beej and Trapper would have had a clash of characters. I mean BJ was so devoted to his wife i dont think they would have got along, with Trapper being so...... free spirited with love. Trapper was so nice though *thinks nice thoughts about trapper* aaaaaaaaaaw

I always had a bit of a crush on Trapper........I grew to like BJ too, but he never quite had the same appeal to me as Trapper did......think it must have been that lovely hair! LOL!! It's a pity Trapper and Charles were never in the show together.....I think they could have had some good scenes!
