I kinda like the unlikely friendship that formed between Klinger and Charles, how C. would actually call him "Max" and allow Klinger to call him little names like "O Pompous One," lol. I guess that happens when someone saves your life, huh?
I mean, really, Klinger is about as opposite of Charles as it gets, isn't he? I mean, in superficial things... both of them, IMO, are compassionate caring guys that know how to treat a lady. Remember Klinger and Debbie? Sure, he'd been fooling with her, but he was very serious, wanted to have a house and home with her and all, it wasn't just messin' around.

Klinger had a decent heart and that's one of the things I liked about him. In particular I liked it when Klinger brought Charles the Christmas meal and said 'it's an old family tradition'

Yeah, Klinger's one of my favorites. I really prefered him over Radar. Like others have said, this perpetual "youth" thing with Radar got tiresome after a while.

I think it was maybe 'They call the wind Korea' which started the kind of mutual understanding the two of them had. Charles admits to Klinger that he's afraid; Klinger is really sympathetic when Charles can't watch while his shirts get ripped up. In a way, each recognised a kindred spirit - they were both looking for ways to get out of Korea as quickly as possible (but each would draw the line at betraying their comrades to do it). Hawkeye and BJ moan a good deal about being where they are, but only Charles and Klinger actively try to do something about it.

Did anyone other than Charles ever call Klinger by his first name? I can't remember anyone else ever calling him "Max".

I've always preferred Klinger to Radar. Radar was ok at first, but as someone mentioned above (sorry don't remember who) the whole perpetual youth does get boring. It seems like the longer he was in Korea, the more naive he got. Radar was right when he said that his mom would take one look at him when he got home and chuckle for a week . Klinger, on the other hand, really did evolve over the years. He started as this goofy guy in dresses and ended up becoming the guy that kept everything running in the compound. I always did like the relationship he shared with Charles. I think they respected each other (even though they didn't go out of their way to show it). As for Kay's question -- I think I remember Potter calling Klinger Max once or twice. One time might have been when his wife left him for that sausage guy (Morty??) and another might've been in the finale when they were saying goodbye. Or maybe he just called him son -- hmmm, it's been too long since I've seen GF&A. Sorry for being so long winded .

I was rewatching (part of) Comrades in Arms pt 1 as part of my researches for the talk I'm doing in October. There's a scene in Potter's office where Klinger tells Charles that "we're the same you and me" (or words to that effect) - because they both want to get out of there. So Max at least recognised and acknowledged that the two of them had that in common.

I hate to be an old thread digger-upper, but I had to post my two cents here. I get a kick out of Klinger. I know this is a board for Winchester fans, but don't throw things at me if I say Klinger is my favorite character. *ducks just in case* I've always been drawn to liking eccentric misfits in shows and movies and Klinger fits neatly into that catagory. I haven't seen every episode of M*A*S*H yet, so I'm not going to say I have a favorite episode...not yet anyway, but I do like the one where Klinger found out his wife left him and the one where he and Major Houlihan got stranded and it was her birthday. I can't remember the title of either episode, but I thought both of them were great where Klinger is concerned.

Hi and welcome! No problem with digging up 'old' threads - a fresh pov is good. When you've seen a few more eppys, it would be interesting to get your own take on the Klinger/Winchester friendship

As Kay said we don't mind you digging up the old threads, in fact we encourage it if you've got a new prospective on something and I don't even mind if Charles is not your favourite character (the only thing I do mind is non-constructive criticisms of his character).
I enjoyed Klinger's Section 8 attempts, and I'd always be wondering what he'd do next but after a while I think that had worn a bit old and it was nice to see him settle down a bit more.

Thanks for the welcome! I read on a couple of sites that Jamie Farr abandoned the cross-dressing at a certain point because he didn't want people making fun of his children and their dad wearing women's clothing. I always thought it was funny how Klinger ended up deciding to stay in Korea after meeting Soon Lee when he spent all those years trying to get out.
