Okay don't bombard the board with complaints but what do you really think of Hawkeye?
Is there anything you like about him?

Hmmm, I just sat here and pondered it for about five seconds, and I think the main thing I like are his one-liners, which can be very funny. One of my favorites is from Mr and Mrs Who, when he takes out the stockings and says, Oh, sure, bring back the empties!
As for his actual character and personality (and I'm assuming we're talking ALDA'S interpretation of Hawkeye), um.... no.
Now, Donald Sutherland's version of Hawkeye, heck yeah, I love him. Alda made Hawkeye way WAY too uptight, pompous and egotistical. Sure, Sutherland's Hawkeye could be egotistical (he was good and he knew it), but it's different somehow. I loved how he and Trapper (Elliott Gould) would do their usual banter and such, then flip the switch and suddenly they're the Pros from Dover, talking medical talk and continuing their rapid-fire conversation so naturally.

Agreed, he does have some very funny one-liners; and I like that he sometimes sides with Charles (I love 'Sons and Bowlers' and 'Bombshells' for example). Mostly though he just irritates me

In the early seasons, Hawkeye was okay, but as the episodes went on he really started to annoy! His one liners are great - yeah, sure - but don't you find it a pain when he usually gets the best one liners all the time? That bugs me, I'm afraid! I guess the one thing I can say that I like about him is his height - I do have a thing for tall men - but, David is taller, of course....!

He was a good surgeon and he was amusing at times.

EARLY Hawkeye was a great interpretation of Sutherland's Hawkeye. Similar to "Stargate SG-1," when Michael Shanks tried to recreate James Spader's version of Daniel Jackson. I guess the actor finally got tired of it, and Daniel sort of transformed over a few seasons. Not in a bad way, like Hawkeye mostly did IMO. Alda's ego and overacting got a bit much; I can't say I blame Wayne Rogers for leaving. Mike Farrell at least went in knowing what to expect.
And I have to admit, those blue eyes and black hair are gorgeous together, lol. Something you'd expect in a person of Welsh heritage, not Italian like I'm assuming Alda is. Maybe Mom was part Welsh, I dunno. Rumor has it I'm 1/4 Welsh, and I'm sure that's where my blue eyes come from, thanks to daddy. I can't remember Robert Alda's eye color; are they brown or blue?

9er, I think I read a long time ago that his mother was Irish decended. Which would stand to reason, a good Italian boy (Robert) would marry a Catholic girl.

Sorry in advance if I offend anyone..
I really can't stand watching scenes with Hawkeye in it. I find Alan Alda to be physically repulsive with an annoying voice. When I watch my M*A*S*H* DVD's I fast-forward to the Charles scenes. As someone mentioned in an earlier post, Hawkeye's holier-than-thou rants are a bit much. The funniest scenes always seem to include Charles, Potter & Klinger.
As far as Hawkeye and Margaret as a couple, I just shake my head in disgust. Charles and Margaret had more "electric" moments than Hawkeye and Margaret. (And that includes that lame, poorly-acted kissing scene in "Comrades in Arms").
OK, off my soap box now.

This is following on from what Jerseygirl said regarding Hawkeye not being that attractive.
He's not an ugly man but definately not worth getting excited about. I don't think it helps that he's a drinker and a womaniser but I didn't think you ladies minded scruffy (think back to Mr and Mrs Who).
As I don't want to turn my post into a criticisms of someone's appearance I'll finish here.
