On one of my rare visits to MASHtalk, I was reading the thread about who was the most egotistical and it seemed like it was between Charles and Hawkeye (as it always seems to be) and I don't really think these Hawkeye fans know their favourite character very well. They've overlooked the times when he has bragged about his surgical skills so I've given them the reference that I gave Kay when she did a talk on Charles. Let's see how they can back an actual quote up???
It also bothered me when someone quoted MrsWinchester's post and said "You have a problem with Hawkeye, How is that possible, he's the heart of the show?"

Hawkeye may be the heart of the show but that doesn't mean everyone loves him, some fans need to realize that.
That poster will never change his mind or opinion so I wouldn't bother Jenn.

OG, you are so right. Some fans won't even hear of anything bad said about their obsession. I don't know if you know the actor Gerard Butler but don't ever go to his board on IMDB and make any comment that isn't a good one. The fans there will rip your heart out so fast it will make you head spin.
Jenn, you tried but sometimes you have to accept the fact some people are very narrow minded as far their favorites go.
At least on this board, we all can have discussions even if we don't agree with each other. And we remain civil about it. That is why I am glad to have found you all.

I've seen the thread you mean - and contributed to it - but I often find that the best thing to do with discussions like that is to say your piece, present your evidence, and then stay away. There may be a few 'neutrals' who will consider what you've said and use it to form an opinion, but nothing you can say will influence someone who holds an opposing view. The blinkered 'Hawkeye is perfect' brigade are deeply annoying, i know, but you'll not get them to change. Charles had an appropriate phrase, I think - "Do not condemn the pathetic clown - but rather, pity him!" Sums up how to treat the 'Hawkeye worshipper', I reckon!
