He could be both very annoying and quite nice. The one time when I was really furious with him was in 'Friends and Ememies' in S11. He went to such great lengths to stop Charles from listening to his music. (This was highlighted in the Group). So Charles may have been annoying BJ by playing his music in the swamp but he wasn't bothering anyone in the Officers Club and there was no reason to stop him from listening to his music in there.

Yes, I think BJ got to be more of a grump as time went on. There was no excuse for him being so downright spiteful in 'Friends & Enemies', and I thought it was great that Margaret and Charles got their own back on him at the end. Served him right!

I think BJ's personality took a turn for the worse once he got the mustache. He became this whiny crybaby. I understand that he missed home, but he always had the attitude that out of everyone there he deserved to be there the least.
I liked pre-mustache BJ the best. Plus he looked much better without the 'stache. It looked like he had a catapiller on steroids perched above his lips. Ick.

I Agree Charles Wasn't Bothing Anyone He Had A Right To Listen To His Music!

BJ didn't like it because he couldn't do what he wanted so he thought he'd stop Charles from listening to his music. BJ missed home but the others missed their loved ones too and I don't think BJ was aware of that.

BJ was okay, but he was no Trapper John McIntyre. Not by a LONG stretch!

He was a devoted family man, which was good but he was an incredibly boring character and a bit of a whiner.

Eh, Beej had his moments of okayness. He seemed to be a good friend to Hawk and I think he had the potential to be the same to Charles. The thing that really ruins his character is the whining. When he starts, I just want to fast forward the scene.

did you notice how serious mash becamw after BJ joined? It almost became a drama with the odd moment of comedy. Example in 'Ringbanger' Trapper and Hawk removed Colonel Buzz Brighton(Leslie Nielson) appendix to stop him in his 'killing spree' and get him sent home. However in "Preventive Medicine" Hawk does exactly the same thing but BJ holds it against him. Hawkeye (to B.J.): "I hate myself right now. I hate me, I hate you, I hate my whole life here. But if I can get this maniac off the line by a simple appendectomy, then at least I can hate myself with a clear conscience."

Yeah, doing an elective appendectomy seems more like Hawkeye's and Trapper's style. I know what you mean about how it changed thought; I think it was Alda's influence as he got more and more into pretty much running the whole show. The MOVIE Hawkeye wouldn't have had a problem with it, I'm sure.

OK, I'm not going to lie. I despised BJ. Even before Charles arrived, I did'nt like him. To me he was nothing more than a "yes-man" to Hawkeye.
I think the moment that cemented my hatred for him (yes I know hatred is a stong word) was the scene in Potter's office in the episode "Fade In, Fade out". When BJ said "Offense accepted" That was the nail in the coffin for me!

Ever noticed how few fanfics there are about BJ (excepting the - ew - slash ones)? I think there are more stories about Radar and Mulcahy on ff.net than there are about Beej! So he's either extremely unpopular - or too one-dimensional to make a decent storyline out of. Or both!

Could be because I've never been interested in BJ enough to look for stories about him.
